Voice notes are one of the most personal ways to chat — instead of typing out a long message, you just talk. On Chatsj.com, you can send short voice messages during a chat to make the conversation feel more human. Here’s how the feature works, who can use it, and why it exists.
What Voice Notes Are
A voice note is a short recording you send inside a chat room, like a text message but spoken. It fits the in-between space where text feels too flat and a full call feels like too much. In a fast, anonymous chat, they add warmth without slowing things down.
How to Record and Send One
The flow is designed to take a few seconds:
- Open a chat room on Chatsj.com.
- Find the microphone icon next to the camera icon at the bottom of the chat window.
- Press it and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Record your message and send it — it arrives instantly, like any other message.
Voice notes work on most modern desktop and mobile browsers. If you’ve already used the upload tools in a room, the mic button is right next to them.
Who Can Send Voice Notes
Voice notes are a supporter feature on Chatsj.com. They’re included in the $5 support tier (along with image uploads and an emoji next to your username), and in the higher tiers as well.
That wasn’t always the case. Voice notes launched as a free beta feature, but running voice and image uploads turned out to be expensive — unlimited free uploads attracted heavy abuse, spam, and storage costs that nearly threatened the whole platform. To keep text chat free, fast, and ad-light for everyone, media features moved behind simple donation tiers.
We wrote up the full reasoning and every tier in our post on why image uploads and voice notes became donation-only.
A Few Tips
- Keep notes short. A 10-second voice note is usually warmer and easier to listen to than a minute of rambling.
- Mic access matters. If the button does nothing, check your browser’s site permissions — the very first time you need to click “allow”.
- It’s still anonymous. Voice notes don’t reveal your name or identity — only the conversation.
Try Text Chat First
Voice notes are one piece of a free text chat experience. The core of Chatsj.com — instant rooms, no registration, no email, and real moderation — remains completely free for everyone.
If you support the project, the mic is waiting. If you just want to talk, that’s free too: pick a username and jump into a room.
